A dog chasing his tail is operating under a relative truth that his tail is an external object in need of being chased and consumed, but that does not change the absolute truth that it’s a part of him and when he finally catches it and gnaws it to pieces it is going to hurt. Accepting that absolute truth keeps the dog from experiencing that pain and helps him redirect his attention to squirrels. When you distance yourself from misguided relative truths, toward absolute truth, you will find joy and peace independent of the opinions of others.

Absolute truth exists absolutely, but it is often hidden behind or distorted by the misperceptions and misunderstanding of others. It is only when we align ourselves with absolute true principles that we experience peace. Purpose without peace, joy, and fulfillment isn’t much of a purpose. That said, most of us to one extent or another have been led down roads behind caring but misguided individuals who have claimed that their way of seeing the world, is the only way to see the world; the absolute truth. When you stray from real absolute truths you are guaranteed to experience a lingering tension that is only alleviated by finding others who share the same distorted views. It can be terrifying however, to step beyond these roads that we’ve been led down; to question that which has become our reality.

So what then is absolutely true? That is for you to discover if you are willing to open your mind and invest serious time searching. But what I will say is that every culture, religion, philosophical outlook, scientific study, book, and human mind contains bits and pieces of absolute truth. It’s up to each of us to sort through all the misinterpretations and misguided applications of those truths — with an open mind. Only then will we discover for ourselves what is indeed absolutely true and what is not.

How do you know when you’ve found truth? Because it radiates in you without guilt, without the need for rationalization or justification, it enlightens your understanding, and it leads you down a road to discovery that never ends.

Most people who walk away from absolute truth do so because either they become disenchanted with the misinterpretations or relative truth’s orbiting certain true principles or because they chose to live a life that was contrary to true principles and felt uncomfortable around those who live their lives in alignment with it. May you rise above that and listen quietly to that inner voice guiding you toward what is true and away from what is not.
